“If there was an oil spill on the Middle Fork of the Flathead, there would be irreversible consequences for the ecological and socioeconomic integrity of the entire system, from the Middle Fork all the way down to Flathead Lake.

Those impacts would essentially be realized for thousands of years.”

— Dr. Clint Muhfeld, Research Aquatic Ecologist for the U.S. Geological Survey

Education and Advocacy

Oil Safe Flathead is a coalition of conservation groups and local stakeholders around the Flathead Watershed concerned about the risks of transporting oil by rail in northwest Montana.

We advocate for oil train safety and derailment prevention measures to protect our waters, natural heritage, and communities from an oil train disaster.
